Kiri Atkinson and husband
Nigel Crean, their sons Gabriel (7) and Lachlan (6) understand that for
many A-Kahu will simply mean a comfortable stay in a beautiful location.
But for those who do want dig a little deeper, there is so much more to
share…
Nigel’s family though is Te Arawa (Rotorua) to their core. His whakapapa
(family tree) stretches back centuries - bound inextricably to Te Arawa
people, land, and stories. The views of Mt Tarawera, Ohinemutu Village,
and Lake Rotorua that flood the rooms hold significance as do many of the
places you will explore while in Rotorua. These stories are easily shared.
Kiri and Nigel have drawn from their own travelling experiences to create
a uniquely New Zealand accommodation offering - A-Kahu boasts the comfort,
the views and surroundings of a lodge, with the relaxed, genuine
manaakitanga (hospitality) of a Te Arawa Maori family.
The philosophy of your A-Kahu hosts is summed up within a Maori proverb:
KI MAI KOE HE AHA TE MEA NUI
HE TANGATA, HE TANGATA, HE TANGATA
You ask me, what is the most important thing?
It is people. It is people. It is people.
